Using a BT HomeHub as a VOIP gateway
First you have to downgrade to 6.2.2.6. Check here for details.
You can also download the file here.
As a quick guide, after recovery doing the following:
Now telnet again to the router, this time using your new credentials. Confirm that your changes have stuck by doing user list to confirm root status.
To prevent BT from doing auto-updates, do the following:
My config example uses sipgate as a test. This config has been tested working for voipbuster, voipuser and Gizmo5.
Now all calls will use your VOIP provider for outbound.
To use the standard PSTN line plugged in (via the line connector at rear), you need to first enter [5] then the number.
In order to change this, use the following:

Genesis of BRATC v1.0 portfolio
Today saw the birth of my BRATC v1.0 ETF-only emerging markets portfolio.
This is a variation of the more commonly found BRIC-type portfolios, except mine dispenses with the Indian market, and replaces it instead with Taiwan and Australia.
Using a $10k sample portfolio, the weightings come down to (rounded %):
- Brazil - 15% (23 EWZ @ 64.63 = 1486.49)
- Russia - 15% (11 TRF @ 69.83 = 722.50 and 17 RSX @ 42.50 = 768.13)
- Australia - 35% (120 EWA @ 29.40 = 3528.00)
- Taiwan - 20% (120 EWT @ 16.65 = 1998.00)
- China - 15% (11 FXI @ 135.90 = 1494.90)
Russia is probably under-represented, but I do believe there's a valid event risk coming up with the next elections.
(And yes, I am treating the Taiwanese and Chinese economies as two separate ones)

End of FY'06 holdings
The end of the fiscal year is with us, and time for a little portfolio re-balancing.
I'm now very very very wary of the US economy, and the ever-expanding M3 money supply is a real cause of concern.
Whilst it's good for me travelling to US converting GBP-USD, most of my holdings are in USD and it's a real cause of concern. Will the crack-up boom occur? Who knows?
Going into FY'07, my primary fund holdings are FIGRX, SSEMX, FLVCX and RYJUX.
I'm still betting on the long bond prices falling as US interest rates must rise, so staying in RYJUX (though I have sold down to only 1/3 of my original holdings).
FLVCX is my only real large US play at moment, and it's done well for me to date. FIGRX and SSEMX give me a broad-based foreign exposure, and is now a fairly signicant %age of my fund holdings. Nearly 35% of my portfolio is now in cash, and I'll be moving a fair chunk over to Zecco to experiment with a few sample portfolios, particularly since I can experiment with ETF-only holdings and smaller lot sizes due to it's $0 commission structure. More on Zecco in future.Oh, I couldn't help myself, so I took a little gamble on TRMP and PTT. Purely a gamble :). Don't forget your stop-losses.

Pattaya was good and relaxing in a way. Sun and surf (haha) etc. The view from the room (left) was wonderful, but the view out to sea was a little less interesting.
The food was just amazing. But the nightlife wasn't quite what I really wanted to get into. Still it's way way better than Shitfield.
Oh and guess who the cat dragged in...

Words are Cheap...
If you don't intend to follow through on anything, then don't offer in the first place.
If you don't think that something can be done, then get the fuck out of the way of people who are trying to get it done.
Today I must have hit a low-point of my interaction with the human race. The last few months has been such a fucking comedy I wonder how people ever get things done in life. Then I realize, wait a minute, it's endemic only to where I am at the moment, not the world I am generally used to.
I'm starting to feel like I, too, am succumbing to the disease and rot of this place. Time to head back to the real world where people actually respect deadlines, and where one's words can be respected, and are worth more than hot air.
I'm just glad to be able to get out of this fucked-up place in a few weeks time. The rest of the jokers have to live here.
I must go back to becoming the Bear in the Big Blue House.

Then, my eyes set upon the Care Bears. Wow! An aisle full of 2005-release Care Bears...
It should be noted that the Care Bears wear kandi (upper right, and below left). Is this some strange ploy to get younger kids started in the rave culture?
The Glow-Bears, Doodle-Bears, Care Bear Cousins, and Lullaby Care Bears are newest additions to the range. If I were by myself this time, I would probabaly have spent hours just playing with the Care Bears. But alas, I was out with "toys-intolerant" people...

So that's today's grocery shopping haul. It's not cheap living in the UK. Everything you see in the picture (with the exception of two loaves of yummy milk bread cost me 32.85 pounds at Sainsburys (about a$82.50) and will last me for the next 5/6 days. If the food elves don't get to them first...

Broken - Lustral
In every heart there is regret
But they soon repair and don't forget
The deepest songs that life then fears
Through the pain, through the years
These are the thoughts that I conceal
Though my eyes can't hide the way I feel
There are no angels at my side
I am weak, I am tired
Because I miss you
You know it's true
I am broken
Do you miss me too?
Can we recapture
The life we knew?
I am broken
I am missing you
I am afraid of what I see
When my world is safe, what I dream
I do not shed a single tear
When I sleep, you are here

The Markets at Sherwood Forest...
This is our second attempt at getting to the markets at Sherwood Forest. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of Robin Hood or Little John etc etc, but the merry band of bandits were nowhere to be found.
Robin Hood and his Merry Men must also be very challenged when it comes to communications. There was virtually no cell service on either my Three, Orange or T-Mobile services...
So we get to the markets, and Omar is hungry. A Roast Pork bap is to be had, the first of many snacks throughout the day.
Next we get to our real aim of the day - to get socks for Omar. The nearly Ninja Turtles toys caught my eye, but I really didn't want to add more things to what I have to cart around when I get home.
I was more interested with the various rides on offer, including a really cool looking horse-go-round-in-circles thing. Alas, they would not let me onto the slide thing.
I was also intrigued by the wonderful oven used to roast potatoes. But alas, the store was closing, so I did not get to sample whether the wonderful oven makes a difference to a Hot Roasted Potato...
Finally, we reach the end of the markets, and Omar is once again interested in sharp, long objects... I must say, there's quite a lot of interesting katanas on offer...
And yes, we head back to find the evil Emma wagging her tongue at us...
Oh! I forgot. We went to the markets in the twat-mobile.
Look at the wonderful pair of his' and hers' twat-mobiles...

Cracking open "Bongo"...
So the Mac Mini has a name. Bongo he is, and his satchel is called Jarles. However, I needed to fatten Bongo up today as he was virtually unusable with 256Mb. Now cracking Bongo open was quite an interesting adventure...
I had to actually go to Poundland to get two putty knives to prise open the case. The case finally opened up with lots of cracking-type noises that scared me as I thought I had broken something. This exercise is Something I wouldn't recommend people with weak hearts to do. Why can't we have memory upgrades like how simple it was on the iMac...
But in the end, the case came apart to reveal the amazing size of the innards (about the size of a CD/CDRW/DVD-type 5.25" drive) and Bongo is now a fatter Mac Mini with a 512Mb PC3200 CL3 DDR400 DIMM.
Now, when I get the 1Gb DIMM, Bongo will then become Big Fat Mini Bongo.

Amsterdam - Day 2...
So we start off at my old yumcha haunt at the Amsterdam Penis. Memories of our regular Sunday lunches...
After lunch, in our quest for shoes for Peta, we pass Seeds Of Passion where I spot a set of testicles hanging over the door...

So we walk, and we walk, and we walk, and then we get told at a "local" coffee shop that the Albert Cuyp market was closed today as it is Liberation Day.
Peta then happily indulges in a little bit of "rest" (whilst once again being on the phone). Now, what this "Shooting Powder" is we weren't quite sure to start with... And Australian Italian Sportswear? WTF?
So we are back in the Centrum by Singel, and it's time to fuel up. Yum! Pancakes, and I managed to get my uitsmijter ("bouncer" - fried eggs & ham on toast). After being pigs, we finally get to buy shoes - Peta's shocked that she bought Ugg boots in Amsterdam...
We end our day at Sunday's, where Peta gets sunburnt on her tummy. Sun in Amsterdam? Must be a dream...

The Peak District...
It was a sunny day today. For a change. So Omar suggested a drive out to the Peak District for a look-see and perhaps a traditional roast for lunch.
Yes, that's snow on the ground. It's hasn't been snowing much in Sheffield, but as we headed out it started appearing on all the hills around.
Off to lunch we go. The first place we went to was the Devonshire Arms (left). It's claim to fame is that Guy Fawkes planned his overthrow [I will confirm and update]. Alas, it was quite packed and service was somewhat non-existant, to the point that we could not even discern how to get seated. (Yes, those are sun rays in the picture. Quite rare to see so far)
So off we went to The Scotsmans Pack (right) where we had a delicious traditional lunch, but alas I did not try the roast with Yorkshire Pudding. Maybe next time.
On the way back, we stop at [to update] with the intention of having a post-prandial walk around the estate. This was not to be, as the ground was snow-sodden and we were wearing runners which were unfortunately not quite of Gore-Tex stature.
We did however see some interesting beaver and oink sculptures in the garden there.

Area 51 at MCA?
These strange signs were seen at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Do we now have the cloaking technology more commonly seen in sci-fi movies?
Will cloaking school groups (per left picture) also make them quieten down? :w
Is Callie sitting on a boat that is already getting cloaked?

Reflections?
The blurb read: "Following on from the spectacular bridge lighting effect of 2003 the Sydney Harbour Bridge will again be awash with colour and movement throughout January as another amazing lighting design byMartin Kinnane will support a spectacular new centrepiece effect that will expand on the concepts of light, reflection and spectacle previously achieved on NYE through the words "Etherenity" and "Peace".
Bah humbug! There was nothing to be seen except Callie's crazy postures.
But at least some people saw the moon that night...

It was the night before Christmas...
I had gone to Wanted Thursdays and then Adam and David decides to head off to Scruffys, so I happily tag along and Clare comes to join us not too soon after.
Whoops! Looks like David is having a good time in the picture above, as is Joe in the pictures below...

Yes, Nurofen Plus can be split in half...
Once split, the convex N+ bit yields 12.8mg of codeine phosphate. The concave bit is 200mg ibuprofen, which is to be discarded. Three convex bits give you 38.4mg of codeine, which is more than that contained in each tab of prescription Panadeine Forte.

The end of the 4-day campaign
Just as we were about to head to sleep this Sunday night after a long and exhausting weekend, the phone rings at 1:30am - "Hey what are you all doing tonight?" Since there are no more Sunday night events other than YU, Adam/Deejay, David/DDsD and John/Chewbecca appear at our doorstep...
This is not long after they get here, at 2:29am and 2:43am.
The now-infamous two-timing Unicorn appears, with corresponding massages given by Clare [5:16am, 5:24am, 5:36am, 6:31am]
The final stretch, at 9:03am and 9:04am, before everyone calls it a day around 10:30am.

Dance Factory - A Free Rave to end 2004
So the rumours are true. A truly free real warehouse rave to finish up 2004. And to make it even tastier, it's held close by to the city at Mascot just off Gardener's Road.
Good to see some old faces there, and some new ones too. But alas, we had to leave early as everyone already had a long day before going to this.

The DVD Rental Challenge
So I've finally succumbed to the lure of "never-ending" DVD rentals and am trailling both Quickflix and Bigpond Movies (same as Fetchmemovies).
The above is how Quickflix sends out the DVDs. Below is the Bigpond Movies way.
Both use similar logistics, with a Reply Paid return mailer for returning the viewed DVDs. However, the Quickflix one would appear to be more robust due to it actually being sent in a plastic "dust jacket".
Stay tuned for a future update regarding both services.

Ahead
So it's true. Ahead might give Progress@Gas a run for it's money. Good crowd, no fuckwits around. Perhaps it is indeed, a new revolution.
Let's see how long the membership keychains entry method works before commercial pressure kicks in. Alas, that would be a bad thing :(
Alas, going to Ahead meant no sleep for Clare who got back from work at nearly midnight...

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Results are in
Ok, Mark@viper, Bertko and myself went to check out this Star Bar offer tonight.
First the good news: the beer is really free. Just front up to the bar with one of the validated cards, and you get a schooner of VB, Carlton Draught or Cascade Premium Light. Non-beer options but included in the free offer are either a glass of house white, house red, or postmix.
At this time, once you have received your free beer leave the premises. It goes downhill from here.
The bad news: The $6 minute steak was REALLY minute. Minute as in the definition "very small". Ate the whole thing in one gulp. Probably takes a minute to digest.
Just take free beer, and head over to Scruffys for the $5 300g rump steak with mash/fries and gravy/pepper/mushroom sauce.

Advent*jah 2004
So it has come and gone. Nothing quite spectacular really. Sydney events definitely have more oomph but good to see lots of people dressing up.
And refreshing as well to see a higher average age at an all-ages event compared to the 50% of under-17s that seem to go to Sydney events...
However, this was nearly a non-event for us. I only realized when we got the airport that I had left the tickets at home!!! It was too late to get it sent up, or to change flights (would cost more). Thanks to Jake we managed to buy two replacement tickets at $55.

The internet dating blackhole...
Noticed this in the hotel we're staying in for Adventjah...
Oh no! A real-life meet up for people joining the RSVP internet "dating" site held at the infamous Someplace Else in the Sheraton.
I wanted to take some pictures of the peculiar folk attending this function, but was chased away by some minders when they saw me take out my (bad) phone-cam...

no matter how i manipulate it, i just can't get a reliably decent picture using the camera on my SE z1010. much as i like this phone, it means i must still go around with my Mars Bar Camera in order to get proper pictures.

If you've seen (or even heard of) Michael Moore's "Farenheit 9/11", then you will want to see Adam Curtis' "The Power Of Nightmares", which is a battleship-broadside across the bows of the US government, compared to the small firecracker of Moore's work.
